Distance distributions in random networks

چکیده

To account for stochastic properties when modeling connectivity in wireless mobile systems such as cellular, ad-hoc and sensor networks, spatial points processes are used. Since connectivity can be expressed as a function of distance between nodes distance distributions between points in spatial processes are of special importance. In this paper we survey those results available for distance distributions between points in two mostly used spatial point models, namely, homogeneous Poisson process in <2 and independently uniformly distributed points in a certain region of <2. These two models are known for decades and various distance-related results have been obtained. Unfortunately, due to wide application area of spatial point processes they are scattered among multiple field-specific journals and researchers are still wasting their time rediscovering them time after time. We attempt to unify these results providing an ultimate reference. We will also briefly discuss some of their applications.

Tomography of random social networks

We study the statistical properties of large random networks with specified degree distributions. New techniques are presented for analyzing the structure of social networks. Specifically, we address the question of how many nodes exist at a distance from a given node. We also explore the degree distribution of for nodes at some distance from a given node. Implications for network sampling and ...

Brief Announcement: Node Sampling Using Centrifugal Random Walks

We propose distributed algorithms for sampling networks based on a new class of random walks that we call Centrifugal Random Walks (CRW). A CRW is a random walk that starts at a source and always moves away from it. We propose CRW algorithms for connected networks with arbitrary probability distributions, and for grids and networks with regular concentric connectivity with distance based distri...

Sensitivity Analysis of the Effect of Pore Structure and Geometry on Petrophysical and Electrical Properties of Tight Media: Random Network Modeling

Several methodologies published in the literature can be used to construct realistic pore networks for simple rocks, whereas in complex pore geometry formations, as formed in tight reservoirs, such a construction still remains a challenge. A basic understanding of pore structure and topology is essential to overcome the challenges associated with the pore scale modeling of tight porous media. A...

Determination of the complexity of distance weights in Mexican city systems

This study tests distance weights based on the economic geography assumption of straight lines and the complex networks approach of empirical road segments in the Mexican system of cities to determine the best distance specification. We generated network graphs by using geospatial data and computed weights by measuring shortest paths, thereby characterizing their probability distributions and c...

Random graphs with arbitrary degree distributions and their applications.

Recent work on the structure of social networks and the internet has focused attention on graphs with distributions of vertex degree that are significantly different from the Poisson degree distributions that have been widely studied in the past. In this paper we develop in detail the theory of random graphs with arbitrary degree distributions. In addition to simple undirected, unipartite graph...
